Amanda Bynes Turned Down ‘DWTS’ – Find Out Why!

Dancing With the Stars promised fans a cast of “bigger name” celebrities for Season 28. While it’s debatable how well that panned out, any disappointments certainly weren’t for a lack of trying. A few weeks ago we found out that Charlie Sheen was in talks to compete, and now we have another name who ultimately didn’t end up on the show: Amanda Bynes!
Amanda’s Near-Dancing Debut
An Us Weekly source revealed that Amanda was approached to compete on DWTS Season 28 and considered doing the show, but ultimately decided against it, explaining, “Doing [the show] just wasn’t what she envisioned for her future,” and that she was “taking things one day at a time,” in her recovery.
Amanda starred on Nickelodeon shows like All That and The Amanda Show as a kid, moving on to acting in movies such as What a Girl Wants and Sydney White. But after announcing her retirement from acting in 2010, she went on to face various drug addiction and mental health issues.
Staying Away from ‘DWTS’
While having Amanda in the cast would have certainly been beneficial to the show (can you imagine how controversial and buzz-worthy the cast would have been if she and Charlie Sheen had both been on in addition to some of the people they did manage to get like Sean Spicer and Ray Lewis?) declining the offer was most likely the best choice for Amanda herself. Dancing With the Stars can be a great way for celebrities to make a comeback and return to the spotlight, but it can also be very draining physically, mentally, and emotionally. It’s not surprising that Amanda wouldn’t feel ready for that kind of experience considering that she just got out of rehab earlier this year and is currently living at a sober living center.
We’ve seen people like Mischa Barton go on DWTS early in their recovery from similar issues to what Amanda has faced, and it hasn’t typically gone well.
Being sober for a few years has allowed for a more gracious step back into the spotlight, so we say good on Amanda for focusing on her health and well-being for now! Luckily for us, we’re still getting our Nickelodeon nostalgia fix this season with Amanda’s former All That co-star Kel Mitchell in the Season 28 cast.
