Over the years, several lawsuits have been filed against AGT by former contestants, audience members and just regular members of the public. Here are all the cases filed against the show in FULL detail & what happened to get them sued!
1. Tyra Banks ‘physically manipulated’ young girl on AGT
Tyra Banks didn’t last long as the host on AGT and this lawsuit was most definitely the decider of that. After reports of physical manipulation and verbal abuse, a lawsuit was filed against the AGT production company.
What Happened? — In a lawsuit filed by Jane Doe, claims were made that Tyra Banks acted in an ‘abusive’ manner to her young daughter. Jane, who performed on AGT with her husband, claimed to have been ridiculed by the audience and judges. Furthermore, the daughter of the couple, allegedly had her shoulder shaken, her hair pulled back and was subject to the insinuation by Tyra, that she had been conceived accidentally. Jane also claimed that the host made fun of the performance, despite the personal connection that the daughter had with the song.
2. Wheelchair death on AGT filming premises
Claims were made from a family of a 79 year old woman, who supposedly died due to injuries from an accident on AGT filming premises.
What Happened? — 79 years old, Maureen Allen had fallen out of her wheelchair near the filming location of AGT. Her family spoke on the accident calling it ‘severe’. Her fall was due to ramp access being blocked as filming for the show was taking place. Whilst Allen had tried her hardest to maneuver her way through the blockage of television equipment, her wheelchair had flipped on its side and as a result, left Maureen with a broken hip, a blood clot and a stroke. She died, soon after on life support. Follow ups to this case are not evident.
3. Women tripped over wires at AGT
In another incidence, America’s Got Talent studio was overcrowded and a lady known as D’Arcy Gurr suffered a bad fall.
What Happened? — Whilst attending a taping of AGT, Darcy tripped over the production wires on set due to the studio being overcrowded. Furthermore, Darcy was offered $5 million in compensation. Follow ups to this case are not evident.
4. Sharon Osbourne’s former make-up-artist sues AGT
Former makeup artist for Sharon Osbourne and others in 2012, filed a lawsuit against NBC and Cowell’s production company after he fell THROUGH the stage.
What Happened? — Jude Alcala fell through the stage on the set of AGT after the team forgot to properly stage warning signs of gaps in the flooring. It was found that the stage was around six feet deep and as a result, he was faced with permanent injuries. Sharon Osboune supposedly gave her full support to jude during his steady recovery. Calls to NBC and Simon’s production company were not returned.
