Alejandro Didn’t Win ‘American Idol,’ And These Twitter Users Are Not Happy

The American Idol finale aired Sunday night, and frontrunner Alejandro Aranda was not crowned the winner. Instead, Laine Hardy won America’s votes, with Alejandro coming in second place.
Of course, this doesn’t mean Alejandro’s journey in the music industry is over. Many of American Idol‘s non-winners, from Jennifer Hudson to Adam Lambert, have gone on to have amazing careers. Alejandro himself admitted to Hollywood Life that he’s “definitely” relieved not to have the pressure of being the winner.
However, that didn’t stop many of Alejandro’s die-hard fans from taking to Twitter to express just how angry they were over the finale’s outcome. Many of them declared that he was robbed, insulted Laine, and even threatened never to watch the show again. We’ve rounded up a few examples.
Some Fans Didn’t Need Words
Some of the most popular responses to the American Idol results just involved a GIF or video to express what the user was feeling. That included turning off the TV, looking as confused as judge Luke Bryan, and even shedding a tear.
Fans Think Alejandro Was Robbed
Many of Alejandro’s supporters tweeted their belief that Alejandro was robbed of the title of American Idol. Some of them even laid out their reasoning for why he should have won, including his choice to sing so many original songs and his popularity online.
Some Alejandro Fans Insulted Laine
Some of Alejandro’s supporters went beyond simply expressing their disappointment over his loss, and actually shared their negative opinions about Laine. This included the claim that he sounds like everyone else, is an “Elvis wanna be,” and would only be good on a cruise ship. Ouch!
Some People Won’t Watch The Show Again
You had to see this coming. Some viewers claimed they would never watch American Idol again because of this outcome. We’ll have to wait and see if they keep their promise when Season 18 premieres.
Some Fans Think The Show Is Rigged
Of course, it wouldn’t be a talent show finale if some social media users didn’t claim that the show was rigged. It was no different this time. One user pointed out how many tweets have been in support of Alejandro, concluding that the show rigged Laine to be the winner.
Do you think Alejandro was robbed? Do you think he’s better off not winning? Will you watch the show again next season? Let us know in the comments.
