Everyone knows that Grace VanderWaal, who won America’s Got Talent two seasons ago, is ridiculously talented at singing and playing the ukulele. But I didn’t know she could also act. Grace has just been cast as the lead in Disney’s adaptation of the popular YA novel Stargirl. The movie will be directed by Julia Hart.

Stargirl tells the tale of a young girl who is constantly going against the grain. Hart thought that Grace had what it took right away. Hart said,

“I knew she was Stargirl almost immediately. The world knows what a talented performer she is, and I cannot wait for everyone to see just how many sides there are to this special and magical young woman.”

The movie starts principle photography in September around Arizona and should come out next year. It won’t be out in theaters though. Stargirl is one of the first movies to be released on Disney’s new dedicated streaming platform. Think Netflix but just full of Disney stuff.

I for one can’t wait to see Grace do her thing. She could get some incredible exposure that could lead to her inevitable rise to power.
