‘AGT’ Star Kodi Lee Gets An Exciting Offer From Singer Lalah Hathaway

AGT star Kodi Lee took social media by storm last week when he received the first Golden Buzzer of the season. The 22-year-old singer performed a beautiful rendition of Donny Hathaway’s “A Song For You” on the piano. The performance caught the attention of the late musician’s daughter, singer Lalah Hathaway.

Earlier this week, Kodi posted a series of photos on Instagram summing up his experience since receiving the Golden Buzzer from judge Gabrielle Union. It included social media reactions from celebrities, including an Instagram post by Lalah Hathaway.

What Did Lalah Hathaway Say?

In the video Lalah posted, she says she watched Kodi’s performance, and thought it was “tremendous.” She added that she was “really proud and so honored,” and told him, “You sang it in a traditional way, and then you put your own spin on it. That’s how you cover a song.”

Lalah also made Kodi a pretty exciting offer for him to sing with her at Lincoln Center in New York City on July 24 when she pays tribute to her father. Kodi hasn’t officially said whether he’s accepting her offer (his non-AGT performances seem up in the air at the moment), but that would certainly be an amazing thing to witness.

Kodi Meets Christina Aguilera

Another picture from Kodi’s recent Instagram post features him posing with Christina Aguilera. The former Voice coach just started a residency in Las Vegas called The Xperience.

Kodi’s post also featured Twitter reactions from stars like Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres. One of the tweets was from One Direction star and X Factor judge Louis Tomlinson, who has been a guest judge on America’s Got Talent in the past. He said that, while he sometimes finds American TV to be “cheesy,” Kodi’s audition was “beautiful.”

It’s clear that Kodi’s journey is only just beginning. We’re looking forward to seeing him in the live shows later this summer.
