‘AGT’ Judge Cuts Filming With Social Distancing — See Behind The Scenes
Season 15 of AGT is done filming auditions and on to the Judge Cuts. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the show is doing things a little differently this season. Judge Sofia Vergara gave us a behind-the-scenes look on her Instagram.
Check out some of the photos and videos Sofia shared on her account, and read on to find out more about how the show is pulling off a new round of performances in the age of social distancing.
‘AGT’ Judge Cuts Have Started Filming
This week, judge Sofia Vergara shared some photos and videos from the set of AGT Judge Cuts. An overhead shot of the outdoor, nighttime set-up shows a big screen with the judges’ names underneath. (They would usually be found above the stage.)
The judges appear to be sitting in folding chairs several feet apart from each other, facing the screen. During at least one Judge Cuts episode, the judges also appeared to be driving their own convertibles onto set. Filming apparently went late into the night, as Sofia wrote in one of her Instagram stories that it was 1 am.
When social distancing orders first began, AGT filmed auditions in the studio without a live audience. Later, judges appeared via video chat from their own homes to critique the acts. This new set-up looks to be somewhere in between the two formats.
Simon Cowell recently confirmed that the live shows would not take place at the Dolby Theatre this season, but added, “Whatever we need to do, we will get to the end of the finals this year. There will be a winner.”
Terry Crews Gives More Details About ‘AGT’ Filming
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, host Terry Crews shared more details about how the show is handling production during the pandemic. He said they’re “guinea pigs” for how to shoot a talent show during social distancing.
“We’re shooting Judge Cuts but it’s going to be socially distant. I’m going to be on a field somewhere,” Terry said. “We found literally acreage and we are going to all be satelliting to each other. But this is the thing because safety is first.”
He added, “Even the acts are going to be distanced. The acts are going to be quarantined.” That would explain why the judges are watching a screen instead of the stage during AGT judge cuts — the acts won’t be in the same place.
We’ve seen shows like The Voice and American Idol finish their seasons from quarantine, so we’re sure America’s Got Talent can pull it off. We can’t wait to see how it all pans out.
