‘AGT’ Comedian Preacher Lawson Says He’s Engaged On Instagram, But Then…

AGT comedian Preacher Lawson just proved you shouldn’t believe everything you read on the internet. The Season 12 finalist posted on Instagram that he got engaged, but some followers caught on that something wasn’t right.

As it turns out, the engagement announcement was a prank, and Preacher isn’t actually getting married. Check it out below, and read on to see what Preacher had to say about the Valentine’s Day joke.

Preacher Lawson Says He’s Engaged

Over the weekend, Preacher posted a photo of himself down on one knee presenting a ring to a woman who can be seen jumping into the air with excitement. She was tagged as being model Nami Madyun.

In the next two photos, Preacher and Nami kiss, and Nami happily shows off her engagement ring. “SHE SAID YES!!!” Preacher wrote in the caption. “I couldn’t ask for a better valentines gift other than to spend the rest of my life with you baby.”

Many friends and fans posted their congratulations without thinking twice, while others were suspicious considering Preacher had never shared that he had a girlfriend. “Congrats! Big move for a first date!” wrote fellow comedian Ian Edwards.

Others, like fellow AGT contestant Kechi, thought he might be joking but were convinced when they saw Preacher and Nami kissing. “You play too much but then I saw the kiss,” she wrote. “Congratulations.”

Preacher Reveals It Was All A Joke

Preacher Lawson later uploaded a video featuring a photo of himself laughing. Over it, he included various reactions to his announcement, from the suspicious to the gullible. “Thanks for all the love people, but…” he wrote in the caption, with a devil emoji.

Some people were impressed by the trick, while others couldn’t believe they fell for it. “I hate you,” wrote comedian Crystal Denha. Fellow AGT contestant Merrick Hanna wrote, “She dumped you already?”

Preacher later took to Instagram Stories to laugh about the prank. “I got y’all! I got you good,” the 29-year-old said. “I don’t got no Valentine, so I was like, I’m gonna go ahead and set this thing up.” He added that people “should never believe me.”

Meanwhile, his fake fiancée Nami got a kick out of it as well. She thanked him for “reaching out,” saying, “I enjoyed working on this project!” She added that fans should “stay tuned on how we brought brought this joke to life!”
