After ‘America’s Got Talent’ Hair Controversy, Gabrielle Union Launches New Haircare Line
Former AGT judge Gabrielle Union is relaunching her haircare line and “feeling herself.” The actress posted about it on Instagram Sunday, showing off her natural hair in the mirror.
Gabrielle collaborated with hairstylist Larry Sims on Flawless by GU. According to Elle, the line first launched in 2017, and now it’s back with a new formula. Read on to find out more.
Gabrielle Union Posts About Her Haircare Line
“YESSSSSSSSSS!!!” Gabrielle wrote to caption a video of herself showing off her products and looking at her hair in the mirror. She added that she was “feeling my natural #BlackGirlJoy FLAWLESSLY!!!”
According to Elle, Gabrielle dealt with hair loss during IVF treatment, and Larry Sims helped her. Now they’re collaborating on an affordable haircare line available on Amazon.
“I’m proud of this collection because we were intentional about crafting a line that is versatile enough to provide solutions for all style choices,” Larry Sims said. “From curls, waves, and coils, to heat styles, braids, wigs, and weaves, there is a Flawless product to support your hair’s needs for brilliance, health and beauty.”
Gabrielle’s Mission For Self-Expression Through Hair
“This collection is very important to me because I fully encourage self-expression and authentic ownership of personal style,” Gabrielle said in a statement. “Wanting to try different hairstyles as a component of that shouldn’t mean compromising the health of your hair, nor breaking the bank with expensive products.”
She added that the line features products for “all types of textured hair to promote flawless beauty through choice and diversity.” It’s a subject close to Gabrielle’s heart, as she reportedly accused AGT staff of calling her hairstyles “too Black.”
Last December, fans showed their support for Gabrielle by getting #BlackHairChallenge trending. Gabrielle tweeted that she was in “tears” over the images of fans being proud of their hair.
In April, Gabrielle showed off her curls on Instagram, saying her “natural locks appreciate the lock down.” She added that she was “unlocking the secret soon,” with the hashtag #InTheLab. We now know this was likely to do with her haircare line.
