This week’s episode of Dancing With the Stars gave us some surprisingly strong dances…and some equally surprising results. Here’s what went down during Week 6!

‘DWTS’ LAST NIGHT RECAP

Ally & Sasha

Ally Brooke and Sasha Farber dance a quickstep on Dancing With the Stars

Ally and Sasha danced a content-packed quickstep to “Take On Me” (fun fact: that song just celebrated its 35th anniversary!). It was tough but she managed to recover from a couple of out-of-sync portions to deliver an overall solid performance.

Carrie Ann: 8
Len: 9
Bruno: 8
Score: 25/30
Weeks 5 & 6 Total: 52/60

Kate & Pasha

Kate and Sasha danced a Viennese Waltz to “I Have Nothing” and it’s clear that standard ballroom is Kate’s strong suit. This dance was so beautiful and very well-executed!

Carrie Ann: 9
Len: 9
Bruno: 9
Score: 27
Weeks 5 & 6 Total: 51/60

Kel & Witney

Kel Mitchell and Witney Carson dance a quickstep on Dancing With the Stars

Kel has been making huge progress lately and this was an amazing quickstep to “Part-Time Lover”! He managed to keep up well and Witney’s choreography was awesome! Unfortunately, Len deducted a point for a mistake Witney made in the dance. Hmmm…we think the judges should be tough on the pros for their choreography and factor that into their scores, but when it comes to the execution of the dance maybe it should just be able the star.

Carrie Ann: 9
Len: 8
Bruno: 9
Score: 26
Weeks 5 & 6 Total: 52/60

Karamo & Jenna

Karamo Brown and Jenna Johnson dance a contemporary on Dancing With the Stars

After last week’s samba and having been in the bottom two before, it looked like Karamo might have been on the chopping block, but his contemporary to “Someone You Loved” about his relationship with his father really turned things around for him, and was his most successful performance to date!

Carrie Ann: 9
Len: 8
Bruno: 8
Score: 25/30
Weeks 5 & 6 Total: 46/60

Hannah & Alan

Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten dance a samba on Dancing With the Stars

Samba is tough – and samba to a country song like “Southbound” is even tougher – but Hannah was up to the challenge! She had just the right level of bounce and even managed to slay those samba rolls!

Carrie Ann: 8
Len: 8
Bruno: 8
Score: 24/30
Weeks 5 & 6 Total: 49/60

Sailor & Val

Sailor Brinkley-Cook and Val Chmerkovskiy dance a jive on Dancing With the Stars

Sailor and Val danced a jive to “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” this week. It was pretty decent and all, but the choreography was pretty simple, and, at times, a little awkward. The judges ate it right up, though, and Sailor received her highest score of the season.

Carrie Ann: 9
Len: 9
Bruno: 9
Score: 27/30
Weeks 5 & 6 Total: 51/60

Sean & Lindsay

Sean Spicer and Lindsay Arnold dance a Viennese Waltz on Dancing With the Stars

Sean danced a Viennese Waltz to “Somebody to Love”, and this was another dance that we didn’t think was as strong as the judges made it out to be. He was behind for a good portion of it, and was more “stompy” than smooth in his movements.

Carrie Ann: 7
Len: 7
Bruno: 7
Score: 21/30
Weeks 5 & 6 Total: 40/60

James & Emma

James Van Der Beek and Emma Slater dance a samba on Dancing With the Stars

Thanks in part to Emma’s puppetry tricks in practice, James managed to get some serious hip action going with this samba to “Light It Up [Remix], and the rest of it wasn’t too shabby, either! The lighting was….weird (we could barely see what was going on!) but from what we managed to make out, James did an amazing job this week.

Carrie Ann: 9
Len: 9
Bruno: 9
Score: 247/30
Weeks 5 & 6 Total: 53/60

Lauren & Gleb

Lauren Alaina and Gleb Savchenko dance a contemporary on Dancing With the Stars

Lauren’s contemporary had a very special meaning: it was set to one of her own songs, “The Other Side”, about the death of her step-father. It was one of her best performances to date and she was in tears afterwards.

Carrie Ann: 9
Len: 8
Bruno: 9
Score: 26/30
Weeks 5 & 6 Total: 49/60

‘DWTS’ Shocking Elimination

As if Lauren’s story wasn’t a sad enough way to end the night, we had our first majorly shocking elimination of the season. We had a feeling a strong dancer was going to end up in the bottom 2 this week – after all, this was Week 6, which is usually about the time we see a good dancer leave while some lesser ones stick around (and the only truly bad dancer left is Sean, who clearly has a lot of voter support). But we thought the judges’s save might prevent that from happening this season and a generally lower-scoring celeb like Karamo would be eliminated. Nope.

This week’s bottom two couples consisted of Ally and Sasha and Sailor and Val. Carrie Ann and Bruno both voted to save Ally, meaning Sailor was eliminated from the competition in ninth place. It was very hard to see Sailor so devastated at being in the bottom 2 and eliminated, but we’re sure she’s done her mom proud as her replacement for the season!
