Nora Barton auditions for “Britain’s Got Talent.”

Oldest Contestant Ever Auditions For ‘BGT’

Nora stepped on the BGT stage with her daughter Pam, who accompanied her on the piano. She explained that Nora has been singing all her life, and is “a little diva” who will love performing for a big audience.

While Pam played piano, Nora stood nearby and sang “The Loveliest Night of the Year.” The audience was clearly charmed by her classic voice, applauding only a few seconds into the song.

When she was done singing, Nora received a standing ovation from the BGT crowd, as well as all four judges. “Thank you very much,” she said in response. The judges had nothing but praise for her performance.

David Walliams called her “a very special lady.” As Alesha Dixon said, “Once a showwoman, always a showwoman.” She called the performance “completely charming.” Simon Cowell, meanwhile, faked everyone out by saying, “I don’t like you very much … I loved you!”

96-Year-Old Singer Nora Barton Has Alzheimer’s

In 2013, Nora’s daughter Pam shared a video with Alzheimer’s Society on Facebook. “This is Mum, proving that Alzheimer’s doesn’t have to stop you doing things,” she wrote. “She’s a year older now and a year more muddled, but at 89 she can still sing!”

The video she posted shows Nora singing “Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life,” playing both the male and female roles (with different hats to go along with each). The description explains that this is “the first time she has been seen by the whole world.”

The description adds that she chose to share her voice with the public in the hopes of getting people to donate to the Disasters Emergency Committee to help people in Sudan and Ethiopia.

Nora is moving on to the next stage of the BGT competition, and we can’t wait to see what she does when the show returns this fall.
