‘America’s Got Talent’ Winner Shin Lim Gives Us The Inside Scoop On What He’ll Do With His “Million-Dollar” Prize

America’s Got Talent may have come to an end, but magician Shin Lim is just beginning. Lim wowed America with a simple deck of cards on the thirteenth season of AGT, which ultimately led to his title as victor.
As a former classical pianist, Lim kept magic in his back pocket as just a hobby. Unfortunately, the magician learned he developed carpel tunnel in his hands and had to make the fateful choice between two of his greatest passions. Thankfully, Lim chose to pursue a career in magic and shared his talents with the world.
Back in 2016, Lim experienced a career-halting injury while rehearsing an illusion. Lim had severed two thumb tendons, putting his illusions to rest. “Most of my magic is with my hands, so I had to cancel everything. It was devastating. I felt like my career was over,” Shin explained. After six months of physical therapy, Lim was able to get back into the magic game.
Lim told Forbes magazine, “It feels unreal. I still can’t believe that I managed to win America’s Got Talent with just a deck of cards.” Lim also described his upcoming show in Las Vegas which will be similar to his finale act. The illusionist will incorporate storytelling, abstract non-linear magic, and a smoky set piece. This is a show we don’t want to miss!
Lim shared that he has had a couple of friends that have recently struggled with brain cancer. So, he plans to donate money towards research and development and finding a cure for the aggressive disease. Lim also expressed the need for a new car because his current one, “stalls on me every now and then.” We definitely think you deserve that car Shin, and whatever else your heart desires.
Headlining in Las Vegas with AGT, AND performing with The Illusionists in New York City? Is there anything Lim can’t do? We’re so excited to follow along with Lim’s magical journey.
