Our 7 Favorite Patriotic ‘America’s Got Talent’ Acts to Celebrate July 4th!
The 4th of July is upon us! And to celebrate, we’re looking back on the best patriotic America’s Got Talent acts throughout the years. From veterans competing to stories and songs about our country, AGT has a history of patriotism.
Here are seven of our favorite patriotic AGT acts!
Paul Ieti was a soldier in the US Army who was deployed to Afghanistan. And his story was an emotional one. He is from American Samoa and his parents still live there. Paul wanted to sing on the show in their honor to be able to pay to visit them, since his financial situation was tight. He competed in Season 9 of AGT, earning the nickname the Singing Soldier. Paul made it all the way to the Semifinals, proving his singing chops every round.
This shadow dance group from Hungary made a big impression on AGT: The Champions. They won Britain’s Got Talent before making their debut here in the States. Even though they’re not from the US, they adapted a story that is distinctly American. Attraction danced through a boy’s life from growing up with his father and seeing the Statue of Liberty and Liberty Bell to going to college to having his own kids. It is truly the American dream depicted through shadow dance!
Voices of Service
US Army veterans came together to form the Voices of Service, competing in this year’s AGT. They are using their platform as music therapy for service men and women. In their audition, they earned four “yes”es from the judges after performing “Rise” by Katy Perry. Judge Gabrielle Union was on her feet throughout the song. In my opinion, this was a Golden Buzzer-worthy performance! Plus, the way they use their talents to help others is a beautiful story.
In The Stairwell
Similar to the last group, In the Stairwell was made up of military members, specifically students at the US Air Force Academy. In full uniforms, they did acapella covers of popular songs. In the Stairwell even had elaborate choreography to go along with their performances! Despite getting a buzzer in their audition, the group made it to the Semifinals on Season 12.
Jokgu of the Flockstars
Now this is one of the crazier acts on this list! Though the ones up until now have been more inspirational and empowering, this one is just wacky. Jokgu the chicken plays piano! In her audition, she pecked “America the Beautiful.” And honestly, it’s really impressive to watch! In later rounds, she was joined by a partner chicken to become Jokgu and Aichan. Though they were eliminated in the Judge Cuts on Season 12, this act is not easily forgotten.
Sand artist Joe Castillo competed on Season 7 of America’s Got Talent. His audition displayed a story, played out in sand, to the tune of “God Bless the USA” by Lee Greenwood. It depicted soldiers, the Statue of Liberty, and much more in an elaborate, patriotic piece of work. Joe went on to finish in 5th place that season.
The Singing Trump
Lastly, another wacky performer on this list was Season 12’s The Singing Trump. Though maybe not the most “patriotic” act, his parody of the president lead to a lot of laughs! And his impersonation was not bad. After all, he was a decent singer and the jokes he made before and after his songs made the act! In fact, his talents led him all the way to the Quarterfinals. But can we be too surprised? Trump always seems to do better than anticipated and this was no exception.
