One amazing thing about talent shows like American Idol and AGT is that subway singers and street performers have a chance to chase their dreams. Often, these performers are homeless or struggling.

Several talented buskers have auditioned for these shows over the years. Many of them have made it far in the competition. Check out some of our favorite examples below.

Best Subway Singers And Street Buskers

Mike Yung

This subway busker (who previously went viral for one of his performances) made it to the semifinals of AGT Season 12. He returned to the AGT stage this year to compete in AGT: The Champions. He performed an original song called “Dreamer.” Mike raised over $80,000 on Kickstarter to put towards his debut album.

Alejandro Aranda

Last year, this street busker and dishwasher made a name for himself on American Idol. His audition was called the best ever on the show. Although he only made it to second place, the judges are still using Alejandro as an example in the current season. He released his debut album Exit Form last year.

Just Sam

This season on American Idol, a young subway performer named Just Sam shared her story. When she broke down in tears, the judges hugged her and allowed her to go through her subway pre-performance routine before singing “Rise Up” by Andra Day. Just Sam is going to Hollywood, and we can’t wait to see how she does.

Damiyr

This New York subway singer made it to the Judge Cuts of AGT Season 14. He grew up in group homes and foster homes and overcame stage fright through busking. He performed “Say Something” by A Great Big World, earning a standing ovation from the judges.

Owen Campbell

Before auditioning for Australia’s Got Talent in 2012, Owen traveled the world busking. His bluesy audition on the guitar impressed the judges, although they disliked his attitude. They voted not to send him through but later gave him a second chance. He ended up making it to the finals and has since released several studio albums.
