How many times have you watched a reality talent competition where one contestant simply cannot take the word “no” for an answer? Although their persistence is admirable, some people who do not blow the judges away with their auditions refuse to leave the stage. Contestants on shows like The X Factor UK often beg, plead, and cry but the judges typically hold firm on their decisions. Let’s take a look at some of the most memorable times a contestant refused to leave the stage or the judging room.
Eskimo Blonde Escorted Out By Security On ‘The X Factor UK’
Girl group Eskimo Blonde came to audition for The X Factor UK for the second time in 2006. During their first audition, they were told that group member Hari bested the two other girls in the group. They did not make it through to the next round. This time, Hari decided to audition solo and she made it through to the next round. The band replaced Hari with a new member and auditioned with a Spice Girls song. The judges were not impressed.
After receiving three “no’s” from the judges, the girls begged and pleaded to be given another chance. Simon Cowell was so fed up listening to them beg that he got up and left the room. Fellow judge Louis Walsh soon followed him out of the room, leaving judge Sharon Osbourne to deal with the heartbroken girls. She told them that the competition was really strong and that they would not be on the same level as some of the other performers. Eventually, security had to escort them out of the audition room as they cried and refused to leave.
Mal Ford Continued To Perform Even After Getting 4 X’s On ‘Britain’s Got Talent’
Mal Ford, a 74-year-old man with a huge personality immediately got 4 X’s from the judges during his Britain’s Got Talent audition in 2016. It did not phase him at all though, because he continued to sing. Cowell couldn’t stop laughing as Ford completely ignored the judge’s reaction. Even the hosts of the show tried to get him off the stage but he just kept dancing and completely ignored their efforts.
Ford began singing another song and the audience continued to clap along even though the judges weren’t impressed by his performance. They continued to laugh. In the end, he had the crowd standing on their feet and he took a bow. This is one of the less aggressive instances of someone not wanting to leave the stage. The judges jokingly changed their “no’s” to “yes’s” due to Ford’s charisma, moving him on in the competition. The obnoxious contestant was then eliminated in the next round.
Britney Spears Superfan Patrick Ford Creeped Judges Out On ‘The X Factor’
Patrick Ford brought Britney Spears a giant bouquet of flowers to give to her at his X Factor audition in 2012. He also explained in his interview that he wanted Spears to be his girlfriend. Ford sang Spears’ song “Circus” for his audition. It was not a hit with the crowd or the judges. He received four ‘no’s’ from the judges. He continued to stand on the stage and stare at Spears even after the judges gave their critiques. They were all visibly creeped out by his antics. He asked if he could give his flowers to Spears and Cowell said he would come get them and give them to her. Ford was very emotional when he finally left the building, even refusing to talk to the production team, talk about obnoxious contestant.
Jocelyn Hinton Literally Would Not Stop Singing On ‘The X Factor’
After she forgot the words to the song she was singing during her X Factor audition in 2013, Jocelyn Hinton seemed frustrated with herself. When the judges started giving their critiques, Hinton began singing another song. Judge Demi Lovato said, “stop, just stop.” Hinton didn’t listen and sang three more songs. The audience kept laughing at Hinton’s efforts. She kept begging and pleading with Cowell to let her move on in the competition. She promised him that she was in fact a good singer. Cowell could not handle Hinton singing anymore and had to personally escort her off of the stage.
Michael Jackson Fanatic Michael Lewis Laid On ‘X Factor UK’ Stage
In his first X Factor UK audition, Michael Lewis, aka obnoxious contest impersonated his idol, Michael Jackson. It did not receive rave reviews from the judges. He came back to audition in 2011, this time promising no gimmicks. He began singing and was immediately given sour looks from the judges. Kelly Rowland even said there was nothing that she liked about his performance. Lewis proceeded to lay on the stage after his performance was over and accused the judges of judging him before he even began singing. He was visibly upset and finally took no for an answer as he left the stage. He called the judges “shallow” and went on an angry rant backstage.
What’s one thing all of these on stage meltdowns had in common? Simon Cowell witnessed almost all of them as a judge as he works on multiple reality talent competitions in the UK and the US.
