Francisco Martin’s American Idol audition has garnered millions of views on Youtube and millions of fans across the world. He was extremely nervous at first facing the judges, but his performance of ‘”Alaska” by Maggie Rogers certainly proved that he has what it takes to make it to the live shows. Francisco Is Filipino
Francisco is proud of his Filipino heritage and often covers some of the most iconic songs in Filipino culture. In one video, Francisco is seen performing on the drums with the Filipino band All For Patricia. They covered a song called “Buwan” by JK Labajo. In the video, he is singing in Tagalog which is the basis of a standardized national language of the Philippines.
He also receives a ton of support from his Filipino fans on social media that use the phrase “Pinoy Power” when referring to Francisco. Pinoy is a person of Filipino origin.
Luke Bryan Called Francisco His “Frontrunner”
When Francisco walked into the audition room, both Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan got out of their seats to calm Franscisco’s nerves. He was stammering and visibly sweating. After hearing him sing Luke gave him rave reviews.
He even told People Magazine that Francisco was his “frontrunner”. A comment like this from Luke no doubt is an extreme compliment. With Luke in his corner, he definitely will gain some good advice to help him become more comfortable performing in front of people.
Maggie Rogers Is A Fan Of Francisco
After Francisco’s audition, singer Maggie Rogers tweeted “I CANT HANDLE THIS” along with a clip of Francisco belting out her song during his audition.
Francisco then posted a screenshot of Maggie’s tweet on his Instagram story with the caption “oh my jesus @maggierogers I LOVE YOU.” It is very clear that he is also a big fan of Maggie.
Francisco Writes His Own Songs
During the second half of his audition, Francisco played an original song for the judges that he wrote about his “friend” from Australia. Katy replied “she doesn’t sound like a friend” after he finished performing. Francisco insisted that she was just a friend yet again. That friend is actually Tyra Pohlman who is an Australian actress.
He continues to post snippets of his original songs on his Instagram stories. He recently announced that he is working on a song called “Swollen” and hopes to release it soon. Fans in the comments on his Instagram constantly ask when his music will be available on Spotify.
‘American Idol’ Judge, Luke Told Him To Drop Out Of College
During his audition, Francisco mentioned he is a college student at San Mateo. He is studying pre-law. After he sang for the judges, Luke suggested that he should drop out of college to pursue music full time.
