The Bachelor franchise has been on for about two decades now, and while the show is still very popular, we’d be lying if we said it wasn’t getting slightly stale. We see the same storylines and archetypes every season, and the titular bachelors themselves are starting to all blend together. It took them over ten years for the first black lead in the franchise, but now we’re wondering how long it will take until we see the first gay or lesbian lead?
Yes, having a season with a gay man or woman in the lead looking for love would change the show a bit. This would mean the contestants would all be gay as well, and it is very possible some of them might find love with each other instead of the person they are “supposed” to be pursuing. (Though this sounds like a great idea for season of Bachelor in Paradise!)
In order for the focus of the contestants to remain on being the lead’s top choice, choosing a celebrity for the role might be a good way to go. (A show called Finding Prince Charming did this with Lance Bass, and the results were mixed, but we think it’s worth another shot!) Here are six we think would be good picks for this concept!
Hey sister! We all love James Charles and also love to hate on him but lets be crystal clear, he is fun to watch. Going by his TikTok version of The Bachelor,
This is what he had to say on TikTok, “I made one major observation after downloading TikTok and that is that this app is pretty much a dating app, let’s be real.”
“Everyone on here is either in a very cute relationship or is painfully single.Unfortunately for me, I fall into that second group of people, surprise, surprise!”
That’s when he revealed his superb idea and we are so down sister. “In 2020 I’m trying to change that and put myself out there a little more and I want to get wifed up so I want to play TikTok Bachelor.”
Gus Kenworthy has already been an Olympic silver medalist, American Horror Story star, and YouTuber, so why not make Bachelor lead his next title? The show has had athletes in the starring role before, so it seems like it would be a natural fit, and Gus is the type of nice, down-to-earth guy the franchise’s audience tends to go nuts for. He’s just the kind of guy we’d all be hardcore rooting for to find his true love!
AzMarie already has some reality TV experience under her belt: before she was Chicken on Empire, she appeared on America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion. And if acting and modeling wasn’t enough, she’s also released some original music! The group date possibilities with AzMarie as Bachelorette would be endless…runway modelling competition, anyone?
Xavier Dolan is best known for being behind the camera, directing several award-winning films and Adele‘s music video for “Hello”. But he’s young and handsome and we think it might be fun to see him onscreen for a change, looking for love! He’s already established a very successful career, so now we’d like to see if he can do the same with his personal life.
Stella Maxwell is obviously stunning, so stunning, in fact, that she was selected to be a Victoria’s Secret Angel! She’s also had an on-again, off-again relationship with Kristen Stewart for the past few years, so maybe a stint as Bachelorette could help her to break from that cycle.
Colton Haynes has already appeared on a bunch of shows skewing toward young women in terms of overall appeal – Teen Wolf, Scream Queens, Arrow – so he’d probably have a built-in fanbase as Bachelor. And he just got divorced last year, so this might be a fun way for him to find new love. His season may have to be a “dry” one, though, since he has dealt with a decade-long addiction to alcohol.
