Sometimes contestants on shows like The X Factor manage to confuse the judges before they even start singing. That was the case with one girl group, called Drama Drama, who auditioned in 2013.
The group couldn’t seem to decide if they were teenagers or 20-somethings. It didn’t help that their performance failed to impress the judges. Check out their audition below.
Girl Group Drama Drama Auditions For ‘X Factor’
The judges welcomed a five-member girl group onto the stage. They introduced themselves as Drama Drama. Then they each shared their name and their age. They ranged in age between 20 and 24.
That’s why the judges were confused when Kelly Rowland asked them why they chose the name Drama Drama, group member Madison responded, “Well, we’re teenage girls. So what teenage girls don’t have drama issues?”
Demi Lovato said, “I thought you were in your twenties.” Madison clarified that they are “focusing towards teenage girls, ’cause we like to be positive and have fun and lots of energy.”
Unfortunately, their performance of “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus didn’t do it for the judges. Kelly stopped them before they were done, and Simon Cowell told them, “Everything about you right now screams old-fashioned, and it just doesn’t feel real.”
Simon Calls Other Acts ‘Old-Fashioned’
Drama Drama wasn’t the only group on The X Factor that Simon called “old-fashioned.” As the show highlighted, he used the same word to describe boy band Forever Young. “It’s like you’ve been locked in a room from 15 years ago,” he said.
Simon also used “old-fashioned” to describe a quartet of male singers and a couple who performed in matching fedoras, whom he called “corny.” Take this into consideration if you ever plan to audition in front of him.
And if you’re wondering what happened to Drama Drama, at least one of them made it in show business. Mollee Gray, who previously competed on So You Think You Can Dance, appeared in the Disney Channel movies Teen Beach Movie and Beach Movie 2.
