15-YO Country Singer Is The Only One In Her Family Not Going Blind — Shines On ‘America’s Got Talent’

One of the most memorable auditions from Season 15 of America’s Got Talent came from 15-year-old country singer Kenadi Dodds. The young musician performed an original song and shared her family’s story with the judges.
Kenadi is the only member of her family who isn’t losing their vision. Her younger sisters and parents were all present to support her at her audition. Check out her performance below.
Kenadi Dodds Talks About Family’s Eye Condition
As Kenadi shared with the judges at her audition, her family has an eye condition called Retinitis pigmentosa, which causes gradual loss of vision, “until you are fully blind.” She explained that she’s the only person in her family who doesn’t have it.
“My little sister told me that she wanted to see me on the biggest stage in the world before it’s too late and her vision’s gone,” Kenadi told the judges, who were moved by the statement. “I’ve worked really hard to get here, and it’s been crazy.”

She pointed out that her sister, who is 9 years old, was standing on the edge of the stage watching. Kenadi has previously shared that because her parents are visually impaired, they don’t drive, so it’s been a challenge to get to music lessons. She relies on friends, family, and public transportation.
However, her family has supported her, and her dad has even been her coach and co-songwriter. “We are doing all that we can do,” he has said of raising money for an album. “We are leaving the rest in God’s hands.”
Kenadi Is Moving On To The ‘AGT’ Judge Cuts
During her audition, Kenadi Dodds performed an original song called “One Way Ticket to Tennessee,” which she said was about “all the support my parents have given me for chasing my dreams to be a country singer.”

Kenadi played guitar while she sang, and her performance impressed the judges. Simon Cowell called her a “firecracker,” while Sofia Vergara told her, “I can’t wait to see what the future is gonna bring for you.”
Simon told her she sounds like she’s really from Nashville, and praised her for knowing what “lane” she wants to go down as an artist. “You know where you wanna go, and I think we can help you get there,” he said.
After her audition, Kenadi’s sisters ran out to hug her. She received four “yes” votes from the judges, sending her to the Judge Cuts. We’ll find out on July 28 whether or not she’ll be in the live shows.
