After winning La Voz Kids in 2014, singer Amanda Mena had her sights set on ‘AGT.’ The 15-year-old overcame bullying in school to follow her dreams of becoming a singer. Check out her stunning season 13 audition below.

Amanda Mena Shared Her Bullying Story On ‘AGT’

Amanda opened up before her performance about how life in America was hard for her to navigate at first. Her family picked up and moved to the Dominican Republic when she was just a baby. They lived there for four years before returning to America. She was bullied a lot because she did not know English and she did not look like everyone else. But being on ‘AGT’ was her time to show the bullies that they were not going to get her down. For her audition, she sang Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” which had everyone up on their feet. “Wow I am just blown away,” Heidi Klum said after the performance. “You have a beautiful voice and you’re a beautiful girl.”

“Well I have to say, you sang ‘Natural Women,’ well you are a supernatural talent,” Howie Mandel said. “Do you know what you have Amanda?” Simon asked. “You have a genuinely natural soul.” He went on to say that it was an audition that everyone “will remember for a long time.”

Mel B was also blown away by the performance and had goosebumps all over her body. “I love you, I love your voice, and this is what I’m going to say to all of those bullies,” she said before hitting the Golden Buzzer. This sent Amanda straight to the Quarterfinals where she sang “What About Us” by P!nk in both English and Spanish. “Getting the Golden Buzzer for me meant a new opportunity to share my talent with people all around the world while proving the message that anything is possible,” she told us exclusively. She was later eliminated in the Semi-finals.
