Sophie Pecora Resonated With The Judges On ‘America’s Got Talent’
“Growing up I was very shy and quiet so I felt a little insecure trying to make friends,” Sophie said before her America’s Got Talent audition. This led her to start posting YouTube videos to relate to people and express her feelings. She also began posting her own original songs at a time where she “only had like eight views.” For her America’s Got Talent audition, she performed a song about bullying and how everyone experiences some form of it in their lives. “It’s not just you. You’re not alone” Sophie said before taking the stage. She launched into a song about being bullied when she was in the seventh grade.
Her raw emotion and honesty really made the judges sit in awe as she shared her story and was so vulnerable. At one point in the song, she began rapping and it shocked everyone. Her lyrics were very heartbreaking about hiding in the bathroom from bullies and feeling so sad. She received a standing ovation from the judges. “We ask for artists to come up here and bare their souls and wow us and honey you did,” Gabrielle Union said. “You are so young but you spoke to me and I’m 46. You have a special gift.” Howie called the performance “really relatable.” Julianne Hough went on to say “To me what you just performed for us was truth and something that was from the core of who you were and that’s what resonated with all of us. I thought it was brilliant.” Simon was also a huge fan and said it was “really cool, I like you a lot.”
She Received The Golden Buzzer In Judge Cuts
Sophie got four yes’s from the judges and made it through to the next round. During the Judge Cuts round, she sang and rapped her original song “Misfits.” She particularly impressed guest judge Brad Paisley. “I’d love to hear a whole album from Sophie,” he said after giving her his Golden Buzzer in a monumental moment.
In the Quarter Finals, Sophie performed another original song called “Happy in LA”. She was later eliminated in the Dunkin’ Save.
