Jasmine Elcock poured her heart and soul into her performance of “Believe” by Cher during her season 10 ‘BGT’ audition. Her beautiful rendition made everyone in the audience want to smile and cry at the same time. Check out the iconic moment below.
Jasmine Elcock Impressed Everyone With Her Effortless ‘BGT’ Performance
Jasmine was just 14 years old at the time of her audition. But it sounded like she had been in the music business for years. Her performance was so incredible that she had judge Alesha Dixon in tears. Throughout the performance, hosts Ant & Dec were cheering Jasmine on and were blown away. She received a standing ovation from the judges and the audience. Ant & Dec who were also in tears came running out from backstage before the judges even gave their critiques. They hit their Golden Buzzer and Jasmine jumped for joy.
“I was at one point losing the will to live thinking maybe now all the talent has gone” Simon Cowell said. “And now you come back, little thing with such a great voice, so charming, and let me tell you I think this country is going to fall in love with you.”
“For so many reasons that audition moved me so much,” Alesha said through tears. “I’ve never been this much of a mess on the show.” She continued to cry before saying “I hope all of your dreams come true.” Jasmine went on to perform “Wings” by Birdy in the Semi-Finals.
She made it to the Finals where she sang “True Colours” by Cyndi Lauper. Jasmine ended up finishing the competition in fourth place.
There Was Some Controversy Over Jasmine Appearing On The Show
Prior to stepping onto the ‘BGT’ stage, Jasmine said “I’ve performed in Annie in the West End at about the age of nine or 10, but I really get nervous.” For many fans of the show, they felt like Jasmine already reaching this honor in her career made it unfair for her to compete on the show.
“If she’s already performed as Annie in the West End, why on Earth is she on #BGT. It’s for proper amateurs” wrote one Twitter user. Others said that Ant & Dec wasted their Golden Buzzer when it could’ve gone to someone else.
“Britain’s Got Talent is open to anyone irrespective of their past experience and all acts are auditioned on merit on the day,” a spokesperson for the show said. “As was mentioned on the show Jasmine has previously performed in a theatre production of Annie. This was back in 2010 at The Bloomsbury Theatre with her drama group, which she attended once a week. She played the part of Annie along with four others and performed three times over a two week period.”
Where Is She Now?
Jasmine has remained pretty quiet on social media since her time on ‘BGT.’ She did become a spokesperson for Lifelites, a national children’s hospice technology.
“My life has been transformed through music-making and it is a great joy to be able to express myself through singing; I’m delighted to see the magical technology that Lifelites provides can offer similar transformational experiences for terminally ill and disabled children in hospices,” she said. “I am proud and privileged to help raise awareness of the work of Lifelites and am looking forward to being a Patron of the charity.”
Back in 2016, it was believed that Simon was considering signing Jasmine to his record label Syco. “Simon and senior record bosses were very impressed with Jasmine and the way she controlled her songs,” a source told The Sun. However, no deal was ever announced which came as a shock because Jasmine had been one of Simon’s favorite artists throughout the competition.
