14-Year-Old Shocks Coaches With His Rapping Skills On ‘The Voice Kids’
Sem Colee auditioned for the Dutch version of The Voice Kids with the song “Billionaire” in 2018. While he started out singing, the coaches were completely shocked when he began rapping midway through the song. Check out his iconic Blind Audition below.
Sem Colee Shocked Everyone With His Rapping On ‘The Voice Kids’
Sem began the popular hit song with strong vocals and a great sense of confidence on The Voice Kids stage. It was clear that the coaches were intrigued by the tone of his voice. Marco Borsato and Ali B both turned their chairs at the end of the first chorus and the excitement was evident on Sem’s face. Once they turned their chairs, Sem began rapping which led to Marco literally saying the word “woah” out loud. It was totally unexpected.
Coaches Ilse DeLange and Douwe Bob then turned their chairs because they could not deny how dynamic of a performer Sem is. His four-chair turn was complete by having the crowd and the coaches up on their feet waving their hands from side to side. It was definitely not an easy decision, but Sem chose to be on Ilse’s team.
In The Battles, Sem went up against Fabienne and Thomas singing Shawn Mendes’s “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back.” All three singers completely slayed the song, making us remember why it’s so hard for the judges to make decisions on The Voice Kids.
This led him to perform in The Sing-Offs, once again taking on “Billionaire.” This time after a little bit of coaching his voice was more steady and he absolutely skilled the rap part. He was later eliminated form the competition and it was Yosina Roemajauw who brought home the win.
Where Is He Now?
Since appearing on The Voice Kids, Sem has participated in a few YouTube videos and skits. He also took part in another video where he talked about everything from fashion to the kind of food he likes. “I participated in The Voice Kids because I really enjoy singing,” he said in an interview. “I just wanted to see how far I could get.”
“My biggest dream is to be at a concert or a festival like Paaspop and that Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran are there too, but because my music is more fun than theirs that everyone from Ed Sheeran or Bruno Mars comes to my stand and that’s where the underdog comes in,” he said of what he hopes for himself in the future. Though this has not come true yet, we definitely think The Voice Kids star has a bright future ahead of him.
In 2019, Sem posted on his Instagram that he had been injured while out in the snow. He took a selfie while hooked up to an oxygen tank and also posted a video showing himself being airlifted out by a helicopter.
It looks like he has made a full recovery though because he posted a rather artsy photo back in April. Although his Instagram account makes no mention of his time on The Voice Kids, he does have a huge fanbase of 79,000 followers.
Rapping is definitely not something we see a lot on The Voice Kids but it’s always a fun surprise when we do see it.
