Despina Savva absolutely slayed her cover of Bille Eilish’s ‘idontwannabeyouanymore’ on season nine of The Voice. The tone of her voice and her stage presence led all of the coaches to fall in love with her. Check out her audition below on the Australian version of the show.
Despina Savva Sang Billie Eilish Hit On ‘The Voice’
Listening to Despina sing, you would definitely not be able to tell that she was just 14 at the time of her audition for The Voice. The singer was born 10 weeks premature and was expected to have lifelong health issues. She defied all odds and found strength in music and eventually led her to develop a love for singing. Immediately during her audition, Boy George turned his chair. Guy Sebastian was next quickly turning his chair.
Delta Goodrem also turned her chair after really vibing with the performance. The last line of the song really sold the performance to Kelly Rowland as she was last to turn her chair. Boy George said that Despina sang “like a professional.” Guy told her that she “could be the next Billie Eilish.” She ultimately ended up choosing to be on Team George.
In the Battle Rounds, Despina sang “Teenage Fantasy” against Siala Robson. She ultimately lost the Battle but was saved by Kelly. This advanced her to the Playoffs where she sang “Bette Davis Eyes.” Although she lost the Playoff, she was chosen as a wildcard to advance to the Showdowns. She sang another Billie Eilish hit, “Bellyache” but was later eliminated.
Where Is She Now?
The Voice in Australia actually just wrapped up filming in July of 2020. “I’m feeling sad that I didn’t get in but so happy and grateful,” she told The Greek Herald. “I’ve had so much fun and have so much to offer to the world!” After her elimination, she wrote on Instagram “Going on The Voice has always been my dream and I got to live my dream this year! And a massive thank you to all my friends, family and all my fans for all the support.”
In the few months since appearing on the show, Despina has already promised on her Instagram story that she has new music coming out soon. “Going on The Voice has changed my life dramatically, people notice me when I go out in public and I can focus on my dream of becoming a singer even more now since people are interested in the music I make,” she told us. She also posted about how 15 years after her premature birth, she hasn’t experienced any more lung issues that doctors initially expected her to have.
Much to the delight of her fans, she has also posted several singing videos on Instagram. “Fans should be expecting a lot,” she continued. “I’m making a few different tracks and the music videos are going to be so cool they should be excited! I’m excited to show them what I’m working on.”
She recently posted a video on YouTube reacting to her Blind Audition for The Voice.
It was also previously rumored that Despina is interested in performing at Eurovision 2021. This year’s contest was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. She definitely has the talent to take on Eurovision and any other competitions she decides to enter in the future.
