Beau Dermott completely slayed her performance of “Defying Gravity” from the hit Broadway musical “Wicked.” The ‘BGT’ judges were so impressed with her season 10 audition that she earned the ultimate honor, a Golden Buzzer. Take a look.

Beau Dermott Took On Difficult Song During Her ‘BGT’ Audition

Immediately when Beau announced she was singing “Defying Gravity,” during her ‘BGT’ audition, you could tell by the judges faces that they were questioning her song choice a bit. It’s a difficult song sung by music legends like Idina Menzel who even took on the starring role in “Wicked” on Broadway. But the 12 year old proved that she had tremendous vocal abilities singing this high pitched tune, hitting each note with perfection. She got a long standing ovation from the judges prompting the crowd to chant “Golden Buzzer.” Finally, judge Amanda Holden hit her Golden Buzzer.

Beau cried tears of joy as Amanda came up to the stage to hug her. “We were not expecting that” Simon Cowell said once the crowd died down. “I like how you just came up here and mugged all of us like ‘yeah I’m really nervous,’ but that’s how you do it.”

“It was so surreal” she told us about getting Amanda’s Golden Buzzer. “Something I could have only dreamed of! The fact that it was from Amanda made it so much more amazing as she has always been an inspiration of mine. I’m just so unbelievably grateful for the experience and how it has kick started my career in singing so I feel very blessed.”

“You are ready to be on stage,” Alesha Dixon said. “You are fantastic, you just got it.” Amanda went on to say that Beau chose one of the most difficult songs to sing. She wanted to push the Golden Buzzer all throughout the performance. Beau made it all the way to the Final where she once again performed “Defying Gravity” as only she could. She finished the competition in fifth place.

Where Is She Now?

After appearing on ‘BGT,’ Beau signed a deal with Decca Records. She released her first album called “Brave” on September 1, 2017. This album of course included her rendition of “Defying Gravity” which she truly made her own. And while she didn’t win ‘BGT’ and a chance to perform at the Royal Variety Show, Beau did end up performing in front of the Queen. Singer Dame Vera Lynch picked the singer to open her 100th birthday celebration concert at the London Palladium. This show was attended by the Queen. “It was a fantastic show and one of the best moments ever!” she said of the opportunity.

She also went on tour in 2019 with Young Voices Choir. “A wonderful six weeks of touring some beautiful arena venues such as The London O2 Arena, Birmingham NEC Arena, Sheffield Fly DSA Arena and Manchester Arena,” she told us of the experience. “I have shared the stage with a lot of well-known singers who have definitely inspired me, I feel very lucky.” She recently posted a video of herself singing on Instagram, the first of many in a long time. “I would love to be in West End and Broadway musicals as I also enjoy acting. I have also been getting into songwriting which I really enjoy” she said.

Beau also got to sing in front of actor and former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

If you think Beau was a great pick for a Golden Buzzer definitely check out the video below. We have compiled the top 10 best Golden Buzzers ever on ‘BGT.’ Did your favorites make the list? There are so many great ones to choose from.

During lockdown, Beau has been finding new ways to keep herself busy. “Keeping busy during lockdown was hard because there’s only so much you can do at home” she said. “I’m lucky enough to own a horse who I rescued three years ago, his name is Prince. During lockdown thankfully I was able to go and look after him every day, so that kept me busy! And of course, singing! I would just walk around the house belting out show tunes, I’m not sure my mum and brother enjoyed that as much as I did!” Based on her incredible voice, we think they definitely enjoyed her singing.

Beau also became “a patron for Mane Chance Sanctuary, a sanctuary for abused and abandoned horses which was founded by the very talented actress Jenny Seagrove.”
