10-Year-Old Rapper Ends ‘The Voice Kids’ Audition In Most Iconic Way Possible
Ashanti “Lil Shan Shan” Johnson-Baiden started rapping when she was just five years old. She got her start rapping at her uncles barber shop. The 10-year-old finally had her big break when she auditioned for the UK version of The Voice Kids. She completely blew the coaches away with her rendition of “Supersonic.”
Rapper Lil Shan Shan Brought Hip Hop To ‘The Voice Kids’
Lil Shan Shan was a bright star on The Voice Kids in 2019. Coach will.i.am’s ears perked up once he heard the young rapper begin the fast-paced song. He was the first to turn his chair followed by coach Danny Jones. Pixie Lott turned her chair and at the very last second, Jesse J turned her chair luckily just in time to see Lil Shan Shan end her routine by doing a split. She picked will.i.am as her coach after he said that he resonated with the song and listened to it as a kid.
In the Battles, she was paired up with a duo and another singer. They took on Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s smash hit “See You Again.” She completely mastered the rap parts of the song and had the crowd up on their feet. The coaches praised her for bringing hip hop and rap to the UK at such an early age.
Lil Shan Shan won the Battle and was sent to the Live Shows. She absolutely crushed the competition with her own original rap. During the performance she walked down to the judges panel and had them all up and dancing. At the end of the performance, she did a one handed cartwheel making it known that she is the coolest rapper ever. She made it the the Finals where she got to perform “Pump It” with will.i.am. Lil Shan Shan was one of the top four finalists, but it was Sam Wilkinson who brought home the win on The Voice Kids.
What Has She Been Up To Since Competing On The Show?
After appearing on The Voice Kids, Lil Shan Shan released the music video for “Sweet Tooth” which was written and performed on the show. It was produced by her coach will.i.am. The video now has 545,434 views on YouTube.
The rapper also has her own YouTube channel where she posts original raps and freestyles along with a video where she tried going vegan for a week.
In July, she posted that she was taking a break from social media. “Public announcement…All my shanions I will be off social media unti further notice, I love you guys.” She also added in her caption “I’m so sorry guys God willing I’ll see you soon love to all my #shanions.” Her Instagram bio also says that she is an ambassador for Nike and an actress.
Lil Shan Shan really is a force to be reckoned with and we think more rappers should join The Voice Kids.
