10 Facts About ‘American Idol’ Fan Favorite Country Star, Laci Kaye Booth
ABC Even from the initial promo for season 17 of American Idol, Laci Kaye Booth caught the eye of viewers everywhere. And once her audition aired, she captured their hearts too! Her voice is unique and has lead her to be a front-runner this season.
But here are 10 things you might not know about the up-and-coming 23 year-old country music star.
1: Laci Kaye Booth is from Livingston, Texas, and was born on August 28th. She is a 23 year-old college student at Sam Houston State University.
2: Laci started singing around the age of 3 “around the house” and “in church.” She comes from a family of musicians, so it came naturally to her. By the age of nine, she was playing guitar and writing her own songs.
3: Texas country music artist Jody Booth is Laci’s father! Though they were estranged for most of Laci’s life, when she was 15 years old, she joined her father to record and play live performances with him. She credits music with bringing them closer together.
4: Laci has dreamed of appearing on American Idol since she was 7. She remembers being “obsessed” with the show and voting for Carrie Underwood. Now that she’s fulfilled her childhood dream, she says the experience is “surreal.”
5: Laci grew up on a farm that her stepfather owned. She claims it was “the most amazing place I could have had a childhood at. Sixty acres of nothing but creeks and ponds, and it was beautiful.”
6: Though Katy Perry speculated otherwise, Laci already has a boyfriend! She is dating Cannon Bullock. (And to answer your question, no. He isn’t related to actress Sandra Bullock.) The couple has been together for over a year now.
7: Laci received a lot of backlash on social media about her orange spray tan at her audition. But the singer took it in stride, joking on the show, “When I performed the first audition, my spray tan leaked in my spray tan glove. It looked really bad on camera.” Judge Luke Bryan later pointed out that he also noticed it, and respected how she called herself out.
8: It didn’t take long after Laci’s first appearance on Idol for viewers to start comparing her to model Kylie Jenner. The two do look a little similar in certain photos, but I generally don’t see it. This comparison also sparked controversy that Laci has had some plastic surgery done, but she has denied that claim.
9: Laci already has some original music released! And it’s really good, if we do say so ourselves (especially “Men & Margaritas”). Her EP, “Something New” is available online and on every streaming service.
